Quality of Life Measurement to Intervention in Pediatric Dialysis

Leadership Communication:  Practical Skills for Growth in Your Role in Pediatric Dialysis

Quality of life (QOL) is generally defined as a “broad multidimensional concept that usually includes subjective evaluations of both positive and negative aspects of life,” while health-related quality of life is “..aspects of overall quality of life that can be clearly shown to affect health—either physical or mental.” In the area of Renal dialysis, we know that quality of life has been associated with adherence and morbidity/mortality rates. Therefore, it is imperative that we consider patients’ QOL when working with this population. In addition to a general discussion of quality of life, we will also review assessment tools to measure patient QOL, as well as consider interventions to improve QOL – and ideally health outcomes- for these patients.

How we think about leadership has changed. In the past, leadership was connected to a title or position. Today, leadership is about expanding your influence. That means that you don’t need a formal title to be a leader; you need strong communication skills. In this webinar, we will begin by uncovering some things that can make communication difficult. Then, we’ll examine a model which will enable you to diagnose and resolve conflict. Next we’ll explore communication techniques founded in mutual respect and responsibility. Finally, we’ll discuss listening techniques that can multiply your effectiveness.
