Mark Zawiski Award for Outstanding Leadership

Recognizing Excellence in the Dialysis Industry

The NRAA Mark Zawiski Award for Outstanding Leadership is presented annually to an individual in the ESRD industry (not restricted to NRAA members) to recognize outstanding leaders in the ESRD industry. The candidates serve as examples to their colleagues and are known for their efforts to fully recognize the great strides made in the business aspects of End Stage Renal Disease.

NRAA started the Mark Zawiski award to honor a person who was dedicated to the renal community locally by participation with the Florida Renal Administrators Association and also his commitment to the efforts of NRAA. Mark Zawiski lived in Florida.  He was a husband and father to two children and was tragically taken at an early age.

He started his career in the renal industry while attending night school and later served as a as a patient care tech.   He worked his way up in the renal industry to the level of facility administrator for a several dialysis facilities in the Miami area.

He excelled in volunteering many hours as President of the Florida Renal Administrators Association.  It wasn't long before he started participating in the National Renal Administrators Association.  He established a working relationship with the Florida Intermediary which allowed the Florida Renal Administrators Association to become a resource to the Intermediary.  He was instrumental along with Jeff Lehman in working with HCFA (CMS predecessor) in establishing and updating the Medicare Cost Report on behalf of the NRAA.

He was a friend and supporter of many in the industry. His support locally and nationally is the underlying reason for this award.

The Mark Zawiski Award is presented at the Annual Conference.  Nominations for the award are accepted starting in August before the meeting.   All members are invited to submit nominations.  The winner is selected by the committee comprised of previous Zawiski Award winners.
