Mark Zawiski Memorial Award

Each year NRAA seeks nominees for the “Mark Zawiski Memorial Award For Outstanding Leadership”. This award seeks to identify outstanding leaders in the ESRD industry. The candidates serve as examples to their colleagues and are known for their efforts to fully recognize the great strides made in the business aspects of End Stage Renal Disease.

The award is named after Mark Zawiski, who was a dialysis facility administrator in the Miami, Florida area. He worked his way through college as a dialysis tech and then advanced through the ranks of administration to become the Executive Director. He died unexpectedly during the prime of his career, leaving behind a wife and 2 children.

Mark gave selflessly to promote the causes of the renal industry in Florida and at the national level. To mention some of his accomplishments, Mark was the President of the Florida Renal Administrators Association for many years and served as Southeastern Regional Director and Treasurer of the National Renal Administrators Association. He helped prepare financial information for MedPAC presentations and was instrumental in hiring a lobbyist and organizing the Florida Renal Coalition. He also developed some of the first electronic software for the preparation of ESRD cost reports.

To honor Mark and to recognize other outstanding leaders, mentors and volunteers who are all part of the ESRD community. We seek nominees for the award that will be presented at the NRAA Annual Conference. The next presentation will be at the 2010 Annual Conference, to be held September 29 – October 1 in Huntington Beach, California . We are looking for people who you believe deserve special recognition for always being willing to share their expertise through volunteer activities on a local, state or national level. It could also be someone who is known for their remarkable achievement, and/or outstanding contributions to champion the cause of ESRD with State and Federal officials and before the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services.
